Prenatal care is an essential part of taking care of your and your baby’s health.

The sooner you start prenatal care after verifying that you’re pregnant, the sooner you can catch any potential issues, receive treatment if necessary, and get answers to pressing health questions.

Limited Prenatal Care at The Open Door

Every woman needs prenatal care, regardless of her financial or health status. Each pregnancy is different, so it’s vital that all women, even those who have had easy, uncomplicated pregnancies in the past, receive ongoing prenatal care.

The Open Door now offers free, limited prenatal care with our Physician’s Assistant, and you may be eligible to make an appointment. While we do not offer comprehensive prenatal care, we assist women in getting a healthy, early start, with the goal of referring and transferring them to a physician’s or midwife’s office as soon as possible.

Jump-Start Your Pregnancy Care

Due to wait times in prenatal care, our free service helps many women jump-start their care with an initial pregnancy evaluation, blood tests, STI tests, a limited obstetric ultrasound, and a thorough history and physical examination. We are able to provide essential health details such as your estimated due date, location of your pregnancy, and the presence of a heartbeat.

Additionally, we can prescribe medications for routine pregnancy issues like infections and nausea. If any of your initial bloodwork comes back abnormal, we will help you get in with a doctor as soon as possible.

Women can return for monthly visits through the halfway point of pregnancy (20 weeks).

Whenever you transition to a new healthcare provider, we will transfer all your medical records and lab results to ensure a seamless continuation of care.

What Services Does the Open Door Not Offer?

It’s important to note the services we don’t provide for clarity and planning.

We do not offer the following services:

  • Genetic testing
  • Anatomy scans
  • Third-trimester screenings
  • High-risk pregnancy care
  • Delivery services
  • Other medical services outside the scope of prenatal care

How Much Does it Cost?

Our goal is to lessen the financial burden on women during pregnancy, and one way to do this is to offer our prenatal care services at no cost. This means every service is completely free, and you do not need insurance to receive care.

In fact, many women take advantage of our limited prenatal care services while they figure out insurance options or apply to Texas Medicaid. You can ask us about your insurance options during your initial appointment. We are here to assist and support you!
